Advance Reader Copies Available
A village in thrall to a terrible power. A buried, sentient factory. People mutating from within.
THIS VILLAGE NEVER DREAMS is now done and dusted and releases on November 30th! However, if you're looking for a horror novel to read this Halloween, you can get your mitts on a FREE advance copy (as an ebook or PDF) if you act fast and grab it via Booksirens.
It's inspired by classic horror movies ("classic" for me is 1980s horror) as much as contemporary weird fiction, with points of reference including The Fisherman by John Langan (in terms of This Village Never Dreams being about stories within stories). One of the biggest influences is old detective fiction, to be honest, especially Raymond Chandler and Damon Runyon.
There's also a big helping of cosmic horror, and events in this book may or may not reference my previous novel, A WRETCHED PLACE, wink wink. There are elements of an impending dystopia, alongside folk horror and cults, but that's as much as you'll get out of me without spoilers.
Will This Village Never Dreams be one the best horror novels you've ever read, perhaps on par with something by Stephen Graham Jones? I hope so! Although my stuff is unabashed pulp, so he might not be the best comparison...!
In any case, even of you do grab a copy and think it's absolute garbage, I would appreciate an honest review. Lay it on me, I can take it!
In other news, I'm getting one of my 'dark jazz' albums released by a label that specialises in plunderphonics artists (ie. people that make music out of songs by other people; DJ Shadow is a modern chap know for doing this) - their stream of it is below. I'm also working on a Halloween release, but more news on that closer to then.
